Congratulations Mr. Russell! I never had the honor or privilege to see you playing in the 60s, since I was born in 77, but you mean so much to the game of basketball! You're the greatest winner ever with 11 rings! Congrats on making it to the HOF both as a player and as a coach!

@joseph boehmer If you look at the tapes he brought the ball up the court and play down in the pain. He was doing shit outside of shit era. You guy always come online with some shit and do not understand the game. You guys live in an era where defense is not played. If a defender so happens to look at you funny..... foul. Lebron, Curry,KD,trea young are all floppers. stop your shit. Guys in bill's were fighting madafuckas and throwing hands in the untelevised games. The same with the 80s and the same with the 90s, which were televised. Fighters were in that time. that shoot 3's all the time was not gonna happen every game because players would take your jaw off. In this era if Patrick bav pushes Chris paul its call the dirtiest thing that a player can do. STOP YOUR SHIT

    • Steph

      Steph

@joseph boehmer not only is this completely disrespectful to the players of that era but it's also just completely false in every way. The game is completely different and players have gotten better for sure. Although the lack of a 3pt line is evident and the no-palming dribbling restrictions are also evident, the gap in NBA players from now and then is noticeable. Guess what though, none of that matters. Without Bill Russell being the pioneer of jumping to block shots, Bob Cousy being the first excellent ball handler, Jerry west extremely seldomly but still pioneering pumpfakes and so much more there is no Kyrie isolation or snatch blocks or Mj one hand pumpfake drive and dunk. Just respect your elders and those who paved the way. To make it even worse though, even your statement about bigs camping in the paint in the 60s is false. After watching some of those 60s finals games myself this past week I can tell you that only Wilt used to seal his man and get the ball deep in the post and go up for shots. Obviously others did it once or twice too but it was quite rare. With Wilt he did it significantly less than Shaq but when he did seal his man he was guaranteed a score unless you made a crazy block on him which wasn't happening often in the era of classy, no hard foul/rugged style of play. To the point about bigmen camping in the paint, they usually camped around the paint but seldomly in it only going in to get rebounds which Wilt and Bill Russell would be the only centers actively hunting for rebounds more than the guards or forwards, specifically Elgin Baylor. Obviously the bigs would get there boards but they were out screening guards or catching the ball around 10ft and passing it or shooting a finesse shot(finger roll, fadeaway, sky hook, completely odd looking jumpers) moreso instead of the 3ft catch into dunking the ball or otherwise clogging the paint that you're thinking of.
